Challenging Your Taste Buds

This past Sunday morning I challenged our church to take a "Taste Test" for the next 36 days, ending on Easter Sunday March 31. In Psalm 34:8 God invites us to, "Taste and see that the Lord is good." The challenge for the next 36 days is to taste of the Lord each day. This will involve tasting/chewing on God's Word. Psalm 119 would be a great chapter to start tasting. Jesus said that man does not live by bread alone but by every word that comes from the mouth of God. Just as you eat breakfast every day, you are now going to eat fresh spiritual bread each morning. Along with scripture, you will also want to spend time talking to God in prayer. Don't be in a hurry. Enjoy being in the presence of the One who loves you more than anyone. He will be so glad you have come to spend time with him. Think about how glad grandparents are to spend time with their grandchildren and multiply that by a million. You kind of get the picture

You kind of get the picture. This will involve some discipline and maybe some sacrifice. You may have to turn the television off or not spend as much time on the computer. Satan will give you some pretty good reasons for why you can't do it. Resist him and he will flee. You can do it. Remember, like anything else, you get out of it what you put into it. If you seek God with all your heart you will find him.

You will notice that your taste buds will begin to change. The temporary pleasures of this world will not be as appealing or satisfying as they once were. The forevermore pleasures of God will be far superior to anything else. It will be like comparing one of Hollice's fillets to a rotten piece of bologna (no comparison). As you continue to drink from the well of Jesus you will realize that He really does quench the thirsting of your soul like nothing else. Let the tasting begin.
