Our God: Awesome and Mighty

When God spoke from Mount Sinai his voice shook the earth, but now he makes another promise: “Once again I will shake not only the earth but the heavens also.” This means that all of creation will be shaken and removed, so that only unshakable things will remain.

Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe. For our God is a devouring fire. - Heb 12:26-29

Lastnight in my Lifegroup we started focusing in on the FEAR of God. We talked about how yes, there are some occasion where the fear of God "means" to have a fervent respect respect for Him, but thats not how it should be defined in all occasions when it talks about fearing the Lord. Our God is Awesome and Almighty, He is the Lord of Lords, THE GREAT I AM. The GREAT. I. AM. What does that mean to you? I fear That we have really loosened our grip on the grandure of God sometimes. In Hebrews he says:

I will shake not only the earth but the heavens also.” This means that all of creation will be shaken and removed, so that only unshakable things will remain.

God is going to do away with all we know. Does that not freak you out?! There are so many account where God has encountered people and they are trembling in fear. John says he fell to Jesus' (in His heavenly form) feet as if he were dead. My fainted. I dont want to drag this out to long because honestly there is so much to cover I'd have to write a book, and I dont want to write a book. But lets consider this. Next to Gods great love and favor he has given us, let us consider the legitamate fear of the Lord. Let us look at him always in fear and awe. He is a mighty mighty God. Let us not be numb to these words because we hear them so much. Today, lets focus on the words we use to describe God and lets worship him because He is these things.
